Everything Hatchback!

Everything Hatchback!

If you think it may be time for a new car, one of your biggest considerations will be “What class of car should I buy?” You want a car that meets your driving and lifestyle needs, and for many people, the answer to that question is a hatchback. Toyota has many different models, including the 2019 Toyota Yaris hatchback, Toyota Corolla 2019 hatchback, and 2019 Toyota Prius C. But which car is the right one for you?

What’s the Difference Between a Sedan and Hatchback?

First, let’s get the big question out of the way. A lot of typical cars are classified as sedans. So, what differentiates the hatchback from the sedan? The sedan is the baseline or “normal” car that most people think of. It’s got two or four doors; it has a lower height; it usually has a lower rear that tapers down. Something like the 2019 Toyota Corolla hatchback is often “taller” than its sedan counterpart. It deviates from the signature look of a sedan; the roof does not taper down towards the rear but remains at full height, extending to the trunk.

So What is a Hatchback?

A hatchback is all about the storage space. It is a car designed primarily for city and highway driving but comes with a similar size profile to a sedan, while at the same time increasing the amount of storage space you have available.

This type of vehicle got its name because it doesn’t have a typical trunk lid in the rear; instead, you get a hatch that you pop open. This trunk space is fully accessible from the interior of the car as well.

What is a 5-Door Hatchback?

Rather than being considered a trunk “lid,” the rear hatch in a hatchback is often classed as a door all by itself. So, a 5-door Toyota hatchback would be a four-door vehicle, with the hatch being considered the fifth door.

In the same way, smaller hatchbacks with only two passenger doors are often considered 3-door hatchbacks because the hatch is big enough and mounted in the car to be considered a door.

What’s the Difference Between an SUV and Hatchback?

The biggest difference between an SUV and a hatchback is the purpose. SUVs or sports utility vehicles are taller and have a greater storage capacity than a hatchback. These vehicles are designed to go off-road.

Hatchbacks are primarily for drivers that will be hauling smaller amounts of cargo in city or highway settings. These vehicles don’t normally come equipped with All-Wheel Drive.

Do Hatchbacks Have Trunks?

Yes, they do. The rear storage space or cargo area in a hatchback is the trunk. Unlike most sedans, where the trunk is compartmentalized and separated away from the passenger area, the hatchback trunk space is accessible. In some cases, the rear seats can fold down for even more storage space.

What Hatchbacks Does Toyota Make?

There is a pretty wide variety of Toyota hatchback 2019 vehicles. There’s the 2019 Toyota Corolla hatchback, the 2019 Toyota Yaris hatchback, and the 2019 Toyota Prius C, to name a few. Many of these vehicles are considered among the best hatchbacks for people shopping for this class of vehicle.

They come in different sizes and with different features for a driver’s particular needs, so it’s important to have a good idea of what kind of daily driving experience you want as you compare models. A couple with no children is going to want a very different vehicle from a family of five, for example.

Also, people who are concerned with fuel efficiency may want to browse the electric models.

What Are the Benefits of a Hatchback?

The main perk of a hatchback is that it gives city drivers a compact driving solution but still offers a substantial amount of storage. Sedans are longer cars, and so they can offer a few more parking limitations, especially in parallel parking situations, due to their length. Hatchbacks, on the other hand, can often fit into areas judged a little too small for sedans.

Sedans are designed primarily for driving comfort so that the emphasis may be on more legroom, and a better driving experience if you’re on the road for hours at a time. This may also translate to better stability when driving at high speeds for long periods. However, hatchbacks often have more headroom and can be more agile and nimble on turns and in other typical city driving situations.
